Shop Porcelain shell bowl medium

Porcelain shell bowl medium

€175.00
Only 2 available

Beautiful decorative double shell bowl, which has two single pieces sitting inside, when used with a tea light the light of the flame gently glows through.

The two interior shells can be placed outside the double bowl to create a beautiful display.

Made from white porcelain, these pieces are formed by combining two porcelain "shells". Working the porcelain to near paper fine thickness I am interested in seeing how delicate you can work with the porcelain while retaining its strength. The shells are made by hand pressing the clay into a mould & working to a fine finish. Once released from the mould the forms are joined together and go through the first first firing. After this firing copper oxide is applied to the edge of the shell, then back in for the high temperature firing.

The porcelain becomes soft during firing & moves in reaction to the form I have made. The finished piece will depend on how the combined bowls counter balance & react to each other, becoming a unique organic form. Finally they are hand sanded in order to achieve a smooth tactile surface.

Size -160-180mm dia x 100-130mm high, due to the movement of the piece during firing the size is approximate

I love working with light, shadows & reflections, different views from different angles, how surface finishes, textures & glazing brings different tactile & visual effects.
